I have painted these colorful Orchids twice with watercolors. In this one I painted a black background with undertones of green and blues. The other painting has a white background with a shadow under the Orchids to create the white bottom of the petals. Each has a different feel and I'm not sure I could pick a favorite between them.

I live in a tropical rainforest and often use flowers and foliage in my work. I'm in love with the beauty, healthy lifestyle and Aloha spirit I found in Hawaii. My work also includes ocean scenes and my favorite, "Honu", Hawaiian Green Seaturtles. I grew up in Oregon and that is where my art education began. I was blessed to be taught by many great artists. I love to take a technique and explore new creative ways to use them. Adding gold leaf to my watercolors is another favorite of mine. Later I taught many classes myself in Hilo, Hawaii.
