Artist's Description
I'm blessed to have these Nun's Caps Orchids grow wild on my property in Hawaii. I've taken several photos with the first two blooms open. I'll follow this Orchid with many more photos as the others open. This orchid is white on one side of the petals and golden brown on the other. Both complement the purple and pale green on the rest of the plant.
About Kerri Ligatich
I live in a tropical rainforest and often use flowers and foliage in my work. I'm in love with the beauty, healthy lifestyle and Aloha spirit I found in Hawaii. My work also includes ocean scenes and my favorite, "Honu", Hawaiian Green Seaturtles. I grew up in Oregon and that is where my art education began. I was blessed to be taught by many great artists. I love to take a technique and explore new creative ways to use them. Adding gold leaf to my watercolors is another favorite of mine. Later I taught many classes myself in Hilo, Hawaii. Color and Texture is a common theme in all of my work. Please visit my site and enjoy the many creative ways I've used them. Kerri Free counters

Thanks Jane, The woman at the Farmers Market called them Tinker Bell but I think the name was Tankerville Orchid. Nun's cap is just one of several common names for it.

I never knew the name for these but I remember seeing them growing wild on the Big Island. Good shot!
